I started painting landscapes after I adopted a dog. We would walk daily mostly in wooded areas and paths which opened onto grassy fields overlooking other fields and streams. Our walks were wondrous, and would make me so connected to landscape and emotion that I needed to combine them in paintings.
My paintings are abstracted from a memory of a place and time. The images I represent are an exploration of the colors and textures of the natural world, especially its rivers, marshes and oceans. Some pieces may seem stark, empty, and others light filled and alive. I am fascinated by fog. Cloud formations can take my breath away. A quiet lake gives me a feeling of peace. I wish to share these feelings with others through my art.
I paint with oils. My paintings are built over time, with the final painting one of a luminous quality and expansive space. The paintings are meant to soothe the viewer, and resonate a sense of stillness and space.
It is my hope that my imagery will transport the viewer, back to a quieter time.. a place that honors relaxation and contemplation.
