For over 20 years Joel’s studio has been run as a one-man operation from the original designs through the building and finishing of every piece. The pieces are built one at a time and every detail is hand crafted. Joel is also meticulous about the wood he uses and takes special care in working with the best suppliers in New England.
Joel was trained at the Genoa School of Furniture Design with in-depth study of art, art history, technical drawing, furniture design and furniture construction in the traditional handcrafted manner, employing hand and modern machine joinery.
Joel works in a broad range of styles that include Arts & Craft, Shaker and Contemporary designs. But in the last several years he has developed a passion for Art Deco design—riding the wave of revival in the genre with commissions for entertainment centers, dinning sets, and exquisite decorative cabinets—-just to name a few.
Joel is available for commissioned design work, and is equally comfortable to adapt a custom piece from existing works or presented design concepts, employing a variety of materials and finishes to suit the particular taste and design criteria of the client – while maintaining the signature of the fine workmanship and aesthetic integrity that are ever present in his work.
